Some of the best ideas don’t make headlines. They quietly strengthen communities, bring people together, solve challenges, create opportunities and inspire others to get involved.

In this inaugural issue of Simply Good, we’re highlighting 25 Good Ideas that reflect the spirit of the Boca/Delray community. Some have been making an impact for decades. Others offer fresh approaches to long-standing needs. Together, they remind us that meaningful change often begins with one idea, one partnership, one act of generosity or one person willing to take the first step.

SOCIETY SEASON FAVES

1. THE ANNUAL BOCA RATON MAYORS BALL – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: An elegant night out becomes an investment in the community, with proceeds funding Service Above Self grants that support local health and education initiatives.

• THE IDEA: Since its founding in 2015, the Mayors Ball has become one of Boca Raton’s signature society events, combining elegant dining and dancing to the popular Steve Chase Band with a celebration of community leadership. This year’s black-tie affair at The Boca Raton will honor city visionaries and bring together hundreds of elected officials, business executives, civic leaders and philanthropists. Presented by the Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton as its signature fundraiser, proceeds will benefit up to 20 local nonprofits and schools.

2. WOMAN VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR LUNCHEON AND FASHION SHOW – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: Celebrating those who give their time can inspire others to do the same. This annual event recognizes women nominated by nonprofits throughout Palm Beach County and northern Broward County for their volunteer leadership and commitment to the organizations they serve.

• THE IDEA: The annual luncheon and fashion show honors outstanding women volunteers while benefiting the Junior League of Boca Raton and its work in the community.

3. BARK, BLING & BRUNCH – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: A fun day with four-legged friends becomes an opportunity to help save others. Proceeds support Tri-County Animal Rescue’s Emergency Medical Fund, providing critical care for animals in need.

• THE IDEA: Guests and their dogs come together for brunch, a mimosa bar, raffle prizes, live music and a jewelry showcase — all with a little sparkle and plenty of wagging tails.

4. Artisans of Wine & Food – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: Bringing Napa Valley’s celebrated vintners and acclaimed culinary talent from around the world to Boca Raton creates four days of culinary artistry and wine mastery, where exceptional food, wine, creativity and philanthropy come together in one destination.

• THE IDEA: Created and hosted by The Boca Raton (formerly the Boca Raton Resort & Club), Artisans of Wine & Food features more than 100 Napa Valley wineries and 20+ chefs from Michelin-starred and award-winning restaurants across 30+ experiences — from intimate vintner-hosted dinners and tastings to a vintner-paired pickleball tournament and gala headlined by chef David Burke, benefiting the Selfless Love Foundation.

5. DOWNTOWN DELRAY RESTAURANT MONTH – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: Supporting local restaurants strengthens the businesses, chefs and hospitality professionals that help make Downtown Delray a thriving destination.

• THE IDEA: Each September, Downtown Delray Restaurant Month invites diners to experience the area’s diverse culinary scene, from chef-driven restaurants and fine dining to neighborhood cafés and casual favorites, with participating restaurants offering special menus and promotions.

6. THE SAVOR BOCA EXPERIENCE – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: Since food has always been the glue that brings people together, Savor Our City and the Rotary Club of Boca Raton presents a walkable culinary “tasting tour” afternoon to benefit the nonprofit’s community programs.

• THE IDEA: This Sip. Savor. Support. experience guides community-minded foodies to 16 participating restaurants and specialty shops across Mizner Park, Mizner Plaza and walkable Downtown Boca. Each stop features a bite paired with a beverage – then stamps the SBE culinary passports to culminate at 4:30 pm for the after-party at Serena Pastificio, for an extended happy hour, silent auction, music and raffle prizes.

7. BOCA BACCHANAL – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: Exceptional food and wine become a way to preserve and share Boca Raton’s history, with proceeds supporting heritage education and historic preservation.

• THE IDEA: Now approaching its 23rd year, Boca Bacchanal brings acclaimed vintners, chefs and food lovers together for one of the area’s longstanding food and wine experiences, benefiting the Boca Raton Historical Society and Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum.

8. DO GOOD DELRAY – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: Pairing businesses with nonprofits creates something valuable for both: new relationships, greater awareness and additional resources for organizations serving the community.

• THE IDEA: Throughout October, nonprofit members of the Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce partner with local businesses to create individual events designed to raise friends, funds and awareness. The month-long initiative turns collaboration into new alliances that can continue well beyond the events themselves.

9. BOCA CHAMBER FESTIVAL DAYS – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: For nearly five decades, this community tradition, hosted by the Boca Regional Chamber of Commerce and presented by Allegiance Home Health has connected businesses and nonprofits while giving residents multiple ways to discover, support and engage with organizations serving South Palm Beach County.

• THE IDEA: Boca Chamber Festival Days fills August with 20+ fundraising and awareness events hosted by Chamber nonprofit members and supported by business partners. From culinary experiences and networking events to comedy, trivia, sports and family activities, the month offers many ways to participate while supporting local causes.

10. FAU DOROTHY F. SCHMIDT COLLEGE OF ARTS & LETTERS FALL/WINTER SEASON – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: Experiencing the arts close to home supports emerging artists, provides students opportunities to perform and create, and gives the community access to the creative energy of a university arts community.

• THE IDEA: Florida Atlantic’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters presents a diverse season bringing prominent authors, thought leaders and voices from the arts and culture, media, civic life and beyond to campus, alongside visiting artists, faculty and students through lectures, live theater, music, dance, exhibitions and other cultural programming.

11. MORIKAMI MUSEUM AND JAPANESE GARDENS – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: A unique piece of local history becomes a gateway to another culture, preserving the legacy of South Florida’s Yamato Colony while fostering greater understanding of Japanese arts and traditions.

• THE IDEA: Six distinctive historical gardens, a renowned bonsai collection and rotating exhibitions and family events devoted to the arts and humanities of Japan create an immersive cultural experience complemented by educational programming throughout the year, including Family Fun Days, an Origami Day and Youth Workshops, Wellness Workshops, a Morikami Book Club, films, Japanese calligraphy classes, the annual Orchid Weekend.

12. SPADY CULTURAL HERITAGE MUSEUM – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: Preserving local history ensures the experiences and contributions of the Black communities that helped shape Palm Beach County are collected, shared and remembered.

• THE IDEA: The Spady Cultural Heritage Museum preserves and presents Black history and culture through exhibitions, education, programs and community experiences that connect the region’s past with audiences today.

13. “FIRST FRIDAY” ART WALK – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: Opening gallery and studio doors creates an easy, accessible way for residents and visitors to discover local artists while supporting Downtown Delray’s creative community.

• THE IDEA: On the first Friday of each month, participants can take a self-guided stroll through Downtown Delray’s galleries and studios, with opportunities to meet artists, experience workshops and enjoy live entertainment along the way.

14. ARTS GARAGE – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: Making the arts accessible across ages, backgrounds and income levels creates opportunities for more people to experience — and participate in — the cultural life of their community.

• THE IDEA: Arts Garage brings global performers and regional talent to Delray Beach while offering music, visual arts, education and community programming. Its #AccessForAll philosophy extends through its performances, outreach and collaborations.

15. ARTS WAREHOUSE – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: Giving artists space to create, exhibit and connect with the public can strengthen both a creative community and the neighborhood around it.

• THE IDEA: Housed in a rehabilitated 15,000-square-foot warehouse in Pineapple Grove’s Artist Alley, Arts Warehouse features three gallery spaces, 15 resident artist studios, workshops, exhibitions and special programming. Admission is free Wednesday through Saturday.

16. FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS BOCA – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: Bringing world-class music, literature and performance to Boca Raton enriches the cultural life of the community while educational programs introduce young people to experiences that can spark lifelong curiosity and creativity.

• THE IDEA: Festival of the Arts BOCA brings acclaimed artists, authors and performers to Mizner Park each year. Its educational programs and annual music competition extend the experience to students, including young people who might not otherwise have access to the arts.

17. FUTURE STARS – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: Giving young performers a professional stage builds confidence and showcases emerging talent while supporting scholarships and mentorships for students pursuing traditional and vocational education.

• THE IDEA: Approaching its 23rd year, Rotary Club of Boca Raton’s annual Future Stars event recruits middle and high school singers, solo dancers and dance groups from across South Florida to take the stage in a professional-quality production celebrating the region’s next generation of performers.

18. OLD SCHOOL SQUARE – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: Saving historic buildings from demolition did more than preserve Delray Beach’s past — it created a cultural gathering place that helped energize the city’s downtown renaissance.

• THE IDEA: When three deteriorating school buildings faced closure in the 1980s, community volunteers envisioned a different future. Their efforts led to preservation of the historic campus and its transformation into Old School Square, an arts and cultural center in the heart of Downtown Delray Beach. Now it is a thriving gathering destination for concerts, art shows, Saturday green markets, special events and more.

19. ART ON BRiC WALLS – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: Turning everyday workplace corridors into exhibition space gives local artists greater visibility while making art part of the daily experience for thousands of people who work at and visit Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRiC).

• THE IDEA: Art on BRiC Walls transforms common-area corridors at BRiC into a self-guided exhibition featuring local artists and collaborations with museums, schools, colleges and arts organizations. QR codes connect visitors with artist information and works available for purchase.

LIFE AND FAMILY

20. SAFETY AROUND THE WATER – Boca Raton and Boynton Beach

• WHY IT MATTERS: Learning how to be safe around water can save a life. By removing financial barriers to water-safety education, the YMCA of South Palm Beach County (with campuses in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach) gives more local children the skills and confidence they need in a community surrounded by pools, canals and ocean.

• THE IDEA: The YMCA’s evidence-based “Safety Around the Water” program is built on the principle “Safety First, Swim Second.” Offered year-round at the two Y locations and approved sites throughout Palm Beach County, the program serves ages 3–17, with qualifying groups participating at no cost and additional free swim initiatives offered throughout the year. Lessons are open to those of all backgrounds and religions.

21. RUTH & NORMAN RALES JEWISH FAMILY SERVICES – Boca Raton

• WHY IT MATTERS: Aging well often requires more than one kind of support. Connecting older adults and caregivers with practical, emotional and social resources helps people remain safer, more independent and connected.

• THE IDEA: Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services offers programs for older adults and caregivers, along with clinical services addressing personal, socialization; behavioral health, food scarcity and housing needs for individuals, couples and families. Services are open to those of all backgrounds and religions.

22. DELRAY BEACH OPEN – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: A nationally and internationally televised professional sporting event puts Delray Beach on a global stage while bringing tens of thousands of spectators together for tennis, entertainment and community experiences.

• THE IDEA: The Delray Beach Open combines an ATP 250 professional tennis tournament with Legends competition, amateur tennis, corporate events and social activities during 10 days of play and programming.

23. THE DELRAY AFFAIR – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: For generations, this expansive street festival has brought residents, visitors, artists and makers together while drawing people into the heart of Downtown Delray Beach.

• THE IDEA: Nicknamed the “Greatest Show Under the Sun,” the Delray Affair transforms seven city blocks into one of the Southeast’s largest arts and crafts festivals, showcasing artists and crafters from across the country alongside food, eclectic finds and the energy of downtown Delray.

24. DELRAY GREENMARKET – Delray

• WHY IT MATTERS: Buying directly from growers, makers and local food businesses turns a Saturday outing into support for the people producing food and specialty products throughout the region.

• THE IDEA: A Delray tradition since 1996, the open-air GreenMarket at Old School Square features more than 60 vendors offering produce, citrus, eggs, artisan cheeses, baked goods, flowers, plants and specialty foods, accompanied by live music.
